How To Adjust A Red Dot Sight To The Gun Rail?

Step 1: Unload the gun and take the safety measure

Before you start the process, it is important that you ensure the safety of your gun.

First of all, unload the gun so that there are no chances of accidents. Remove any and all cartridges from the gun. Then as the last part for the safety of your gun during the adjustment process, activate the firearm’s safety switch.

Step 2: Choose between a Philips screwdriver or an Allen wrench

To adjust the red dot sight to your gun, you will need some tools.

Depending on the red dot sight, you might need a Philips screwdriver or an Allen wrench. Between these two, the Philips screwdriver ones are more common. Sometimes, the red dot sight will come with one. But if your unit doesn’t come with one, you can buy it from any hardware store.

Step 3: Loosen the screws that are holding the gun sight to the gun rail

Before you adjust the red dot sight on the gun rail, it is crucial that you loosen the existing screws using the Philips Screwdriver. If your red dot sight doesn’t work with the Philips screw, you should try with an Allen Wrench. The screws or whatever joining mechanism your gun sight and your gun has, you will be able to operate it with either a Philips screwdriver or an Allen Wrench.

Remember, you don’t need to completely remove the screws, you just need to loosen them enough to work with them. Removing them completely from the gun and the gun sight could cause you to the trouble to reinstate the gun sight properly.

Step 4: Adjust the gun sight according to your preference

Now, the most important step. In this step, you need to adjust the red dot sight on the gun rail.

Some firearm users struggle to determine where should the red dot sight go. This is very simple. The only thing that you should consider to determine the distance is your comfort.

Step 5: Screw the red dot sight tightly

After you set up the red dot sight in its proper place, you need to tighten the screws. This is very important. If the red dot sight is not tightened properly, the sight can move from its place while you walk or during the recoil.

When you will shoot with the loose gun sight, the recoil will cause the gun sight to move even further from where it should have been. When this happens and the gun sight moves from its place, accuracy is compromised and you will start to miss your target. So, make sure this doesn’t happen to you.

Just because you have tightened the red dot sight to your gun tightly, doesn’t mean your gun sight is fixed at its place.

Step 1: Safety of the guns

Twist off the knobs on a side of your sight. This is used to adjust the windage which will determine where the bullets will land horizontally. Generally, each click of the knob is supposed to move the bullet’s target or impact point left or right by 0.5 inches at a 100 yards distance. To know which way to turn the knob for left or right, look for an arrow on the knob.

Step 4: Twist the knob to adjust the elevation

Twist off the knobs on a side of your sight. This is used to adjust the windage which will determine where the bullets will land vertically. Generally, each click of the knob is supposed to move the bullet’s target or impact point left or right by 0.5 inches at a 100 yards distance. To know which way to turn the knob for upward and downward, look for an arrow on the knob.
